Water supply interruptions: Deadline to resolve crisis is Sep 18

The municipality has committed to resolving the water crisis in parts of town by Sunday, September 18.

In an attempt to provide an update and clarity on the challenges related to the water supply interruptions in parts of town, the municipality met with Munsieville community representatives and the respective ward councillors on Wednesday, September 14.

Mogale City Water Services manager Duncan Mkhonto said in a statement that it was agreed at the meeting that the municipality would commit to a turnaround time and that Sunday September 18 would be the deadline for resolving the crisis.

“It was indicated further that the key dependent in assuring water supply was for the Rand Water Reservoirs to be adequately filled.

Furthermore, the municipality also flagged the risk that in the event that supply to the Rand Water reservoir did not improve significantly in the next two days it would compromise the possibility of meeting the Sunday deadline.

“The meeting further requested additional supply of water tankers and improved coordination thereof, i.e. for schools and the elderly people to be prioritised in the interim supply.

“The meeting agreed to future solutions to stabilise the supply such as increasing the Munsieville reservoir capacity and ensuring a greater focus on preventative maintenance to prevent similar challenges facing Munsieville, Dan Pienaarville and West Village going forward.”
