Mogale City Water Services manager Duncan Mkhonto said in a statement issued on Tuesday evening that although subject to confirmation by a Technical Report citing the root causes, Rand Water acknowledged that there were challenges at their Eikenhof and Vereeniging pump stations that feed the Mogale City reservoirs, which could be contributing to the water interruptions currently being experienced.

“The technical report is due today (September 13) for submission to the Municipality.”

He added that the Executive Mayor’s Office could not rule out sabotage by criminal elements that led to the unfortunate water interruptions and would therefore fully investigate this matter to avoid it from occurring in future.

While work to restore water supply to all affected areas continues, the Municipality will continue to provide water tankers to residents. Rand Water has also undertaken to work around the clock to restore water to the affected areas in the days to come.

“We continue to apologise to the communities for this protracted inconvenience whilst doing our best to restore water before the end of the week as per the Rand Water commitment.

“Lastly, all other residents are kindly requested to continue using water sparingly to allow for the reservoirs to fill up.”
