Petition calls for a safer community

Petition handed over to police by councillor on behalf of residents who live in fear of crime.

Ward councillor Aloysha Jooste said Ward 29 (Chancliff, Rant-en-Dal and Dan Pienaarville) are residential areas that have been experiencing a dramatic upswing of crime over the past few months – in particular armed robberies and housebreaking.

In desperation, residents approached Jooste for urgent intervention.

“The residents of Ward 29 don’t have peace of mind. They feel unsafe in their homes and live in fear with their families,” commented Jooste.

“To assist in addressing this serious issue, I have petitioned Krugersdorp police and Public Safety to conduct regular sweeps of the area to remove criminal vagrants and increase police visibility,” Jooste said.

Jooste handed the community petition over to the Krugersdorp Police Station Commander, Brigadier Xaba on August 23.

Going forward, Jooste will liaise with Xaba and the community on the issue.

The Krugersdorp News reached out to Xaba who said there is not necessarily an increase in crime but rather numerous municipal issues including uncut grass and streetlights not working.
