K’dorp’s crime hot spots – residents need to know

Police identify and warn the public across Mogale City about the new crime hotspots following a rise in hijackings, armed robbery, and theft of motor vehicles.

Police warn residents of Mogale City about the latest crime hot spots.

According to West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya, they have identified and noticed new crime hot spots in Krugersdorp, most specifically in Kagiso.

“Residents are therefore expected to take necessary precautions and work closely with police to fight against a rise in hijackings, armed robbery and theft of motor vehicles,” Sibiya said.

He revealed the latest hot spots are the Batswana section between noon and 16:00, Chamdor, Rietvallei Ext 2 as well and Sandpiper Road in Swaneville all between 16:00 and 20:00.

Sibiya added that taxi users should be cautious of the driver and occupants of a white Quantum who are committing armed robberies.

“The taxi has an unknown registration and unsuspecting passengers are targeted mostly along Otlega Drive in Kagiso between 04:00 and 08:00. If you suspect or feel uncomfortable by any suspicious-looking minibus or its occupants, please do not get into the vehicle. Also, refrain from asking for a lift or hitchhiking. Rather tip-off law enforcement,” Kagiso Police Station Commander Brigadier Nyelisani Mabatha advised.

Sibiya further said concerning the theft of motor vehicles, the affected area is mostly Rietvallei (exit 2) between 09:30 and 19:30.

“Let’s effectively share information and suspicions timeously using our social platforms. Together, we can bring stability to our areas. Don’t wait until you are a victim, let’s be proactive and prevent crime,” Mabatha concluded.
