Two Cradle of Hope employees targeted – again

Known to reach out to others, two employees at The Cradle of Hope were targeted by criminals.

Melodie van Brakel, CEO of The Cradle of Hope, expressed concern after two of her employees were robbed this weekend.

The non-profit organisation is a haven and a place of empowerment for destitute, vulnerable and abused women. According to Van Brakel, the two separate incidences occurred in broad daylight – one in the afternoon and one at dusk.

She added that their donations facilitator Colin Mazvanzvike (40) and auxiliary social worker, Rosetta Stuurman (39) were running some personal errands separately when they were targeted by armed assailants.

“Their company cellphones, cash, and handbags were stolen. One of them had their daughter’s cellphone on her, and that was also stolen. This was not the first time our employees have been robbed in the CBD, as this happened four times in the last couple of months to our female employees,” Van Brakel added.

She added one of the employees is currently in hospital with stab wounds.

The Krugersdorp News approached West Rand District Police spokesperson, Captain Solomon Sibiya, for comment on the matter who is yet to provide more details.
