Correctional Services officer’s wife and her brother sentenced for his murder

Two people (among them the victim's wife) involved in the killing of a senior Krugersdorp Correctional Services officer have been sentenced.

The Kagiso Regional Court has sentenced Maria Molefe (40) and her brother Jan Mosoeu (42) for the murder of Molefe’s husband and senior Krugersdorp Correctional Services officer, Muzi Molefe (41).

According to West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya, Maria Molefe was found guilty of murder, together with her brother, and were each sentenced to 18 years of direct imprisonment by the court on February 22.

At about 21:30 on May 5, 2022, police received a call about a murder at Azaadville Gardens. Upon arrival at the scene of the crime, police found Maria who showed them her deceased husband.

“He was lying outside on the doorsteps in a pool of blood. He sustained stab wounds to the neck and upper body and Maria alleged that her husband was attacked while she was busy in another room. She further alleged that she heard noises outside and went out to investigate. That is when she found her husband lying and bleeding.

“She called her neighbour for help but got no response and drove to a hospital in Randfontein, leaving her wounded husband lying and bleeding. The court, however, found that Maria had conspired with her brother to murder her husband.”

Kagiso Police Station Commander Brigadier Mabatha praised Sergeant Maleba saying, “This was a tricky case without a witness but the Sergeant applied his best skills against all odds. He left no stone unturned to ensure that justice prevails. It is a job well done Sergeant Maleba, keep it up.”
