Man wanted for questioning in tampering with essential infrastructure case

Several cases of tampering with essential infrastructure in Kagiso since April 2022 have been reported to the police. One man has since been identified and wanted for questioning regarding the crime.

The tampering and damaging of municipal infrastructure affects everyone regardless of financial status, race, or culture.

It is more damaging and disturbing when perpetrators direct their criminal operations at school infrastructure that is meant for the benefit and development of learners.

The District Infrastructure Unit is appealing to members of the public for assistance in identifying the man in the photo.

The police believe that he can assist with the necessary information regarding the perpetrators behind the destruction and theft of essential infrastructure.

According to West Rand District Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya, the police have reported several cases of tampering with essential infrastructure in Kagiso since April 2022.

“Two reported cases were at Mabutho Sesiseko Street behind Mosupatsela Secondary School on April 13 and 26 in 2023. The damage cost R225 000. Two other cases were reported in Tulip Street in Ext 6 as well as from a tower next to Soul City. A padlock and a palliate steel fence were cut off and stolen in the process,” Sibiya said.

The suspects further stole 2x30m tons of red copper cables. The damage was estimated at R12 500.

Anyone who can identify this man or knows his whereabouts is requested to call the investigating officers, detectives Warrant Officer Ngcobo on 082 507 9267, and Sergeant Vilakazi on 081 332 4675.
