Fatal shooting in Pinehaven: Accused denied bail, trial date set

Bail has been denied for the murder accused who will go on trial in March.

A trial date has been set in the Pinehaven road rage shooting.

In June last year, the accused shot and killed Lourens Barnard in the incident.

On January 7, the accused made his third court appearance after his bail application was postponed due to not having any legal representation.

The accused’s application for bail has since been denied and the trial date has been confirmed to commence on March 13. The accused is also facing a charge of attempted murder.

According to police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhululwi, the accused had his weapon confiscated for ballistic testing and it was found during investigations that his firearm was not registered.
