Fatal shooting in Pinehaven: Accused’s bail application postponed

A 44-year-old man accused of shooting and killing Lourens Barnard during a road rage incident in June 2023 appeared in court again.

The 44-year-old man accused of shooting and killing Lourens Barnard in June 2023 made his second appearance in court last week.

His bail application has since been postponed until February 2.

The man is accused of the road rage killing of Barnard that took place on June 11. The accused made his first court appearance on January 18 after police issued a warrant of arrest. The accused has since been given two weeks to find legal representation but because he was unable to do so, his bail application was postponed.

The memorial and front-page article about the late Barnard in the Krugersdorp News dated June 30, 2023.

The accused’s firearm which he allegedly used during the fatal shooting has also been confiscated by police for ballistic testing.

On January 26, family and friends of the deceased were seen outside the court hours before proceedings started protesting that the accused be denied bail.
