Kagiso community arrests man for robbery

Three men robbed a woman and her two children outside a shop recently but the community was not taking it.

The community showed that they do not accept any criminality when they made a successful citizen’s arrest recently.

Captain Solomon Sibiya from the Kagiso police said a 26-year-old man was arrested by the community in Ext 14 after being accused of robbery.

It is believed that a woman and her two children aged eight and 11 went to a spaza shop at about 20:55 on October 20. Three men also went to the shop, however, one of them was armed while the other two each had an empty beer bottle.

The man with the weapon then pointed his firearm at the woman, demanding that she hand over cash and a cellphone.

“One suspected robber armed with an empty bottle searched the complainant and took out her cellphone. As he took away the woman’s cellphone, her two children started to scream.”

The three robbers then fled on foot but were chased down by the community and one of them was caught and later handed over to the police.

According to Sibiya, the Kagiso Police Station Commander Brigadier Mabatha is very pleased saying, “Communities are an integral structure that can effectively assist police to reduce or eliminate criminality in their areas.”
