Couple arrested after e-hailing driver was hijacked

A couple has been arrested after an e-hailing driver and his neighbour were left in a veld and his car was stolen.

The Kagiso Police nabbed two hijackers from Swaneville just hours apart on the same day.

Captain Solomon Sibiya from the Kagiso Police Station said in a statement that an e-hailing driver was coming home at about 00:10 on October 15 but when he got out of his car to open his gate and while talking to his neighbour, four armed perpetrators approached him.

“The perpetrators ordered him and the neighbour into his vehicle at gunpoint after which the perpetrators drove off to an unknown destination.”

After driving for a few kilometres, the hijackers demanded the driver’s cellphone. When he could not produce it, they then searched the vehicle and found the phone. They then ordered the victims to get out of the vehicle and left them in an open veld.

The woman was placed under arrest and the police went into her room. During a search inside her room, police found the hijacked vehicle’s keys.”

The woman was detained at the Kagiso Police Station and further investigation resulted in the arrest of her 27-year-old boyfriend.

Acting Kagiso Police Station Commander Colonel Peter Mabuso welcomed the arrests saying, “The arrests of these perpetrators will make a difference and bring some relief to residents of Kagiso.”

In another hijacking incident, three armed men hijacked a man at about 4:25 on October 15 and robbed him of his belongings.
