Police officers from different parts of the West Rand District continued to make an impact in the fight against crime after the arrest of 96 people during the famous Operation Okae Molao.

The operation was held on Thursday, March 16 between the Westonaria and Bekkersdal policing precincts, and left no stone unturned in bringing criminals to book.

Law enforcement also roped in the support of the Department of Community Safety, Home Affairs, Correctional Services, and Rand West City Public Safety among others.
Those arrested committed the following offenses:
• Murder (one)
• Common robbery (one)
• Assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (10)
• Possession of drugs (four)
• Dealing in liquor without a valid license (one)
• Possession of a dangerous weapon (one)
• Possession of suspected stolen property (two)
• Common assault (nine)
• Housebreaking and theft (three)
• Possession of drugs (four)
• Theft (four)
• Fraud (one)
• Malicious damage to property (four)
• Intimidation (one)
• Kidnapping (five)
• Pointing of a firearm (two)
• Use of a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent (one)
• Contempt of court (three)
• Reckless and negligent driving (four)
• Crimean injuria (one)
• Undocumented persons (34).
A total of 23 National Road Traffic Act (NRTA) fines were also issued to the value of R26 000. Liquor outlets and second-hand dealerships were also visited to check for compliance.
All arrested suspects will appear in the Westonaria Magistrate’s Court soon.
