Teenager arrested for rape of 13-year-old girl

The Hekpoort Police warned parents that friends, family, and even teachers can sexually abuse their children.

A 19-year-old male teenager has been arrested for rape after he was caught sexually abusing a 13-year-old girl from his neighbourhood recently.

Hekpoort Police spokesperson Sergeant Gloria Maswanganye said rape is a very traumatic experience that affects the victim in a physical, psychological, and sociological way.

The suspect took advantage of a 13-year-old girl who stays in his neighbourhood. Police were eventually summoned and he was arrested on Thursday, March 2. He is yet to appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court.”

Acting Hekpoort Police station commander Warrant Officer Baldwin Munene shared some tips with the community to help curb sexual abuse:

• Parents should talk openly to their children about sexual abuse.
• Parents must not ignore their children’s complaints concerning situations and act immediately.
• Let children know that parents will always support them and that they can always rely on them.
• Children must know that people can take advantage of them, it can be people they know like family friends, family members, or even adults who teach them.
