Housebreaking, theft and business robbery on the rise in Tarlton

Tarlton Police warns residents about an increase in three crimes in the area, including housebreaking and theft.

The Tarlton Police said that housebreaking and theft as well as business robberies are becoming a problem in the area.

Tarlton Police spokesperson Sergeant Sabina Mashego, however, said the police are patrolling the area day and night to ensure that anyone who breaks the law is brought to book.

“Community members are urged to assist the police in the fight against crime by reporting any criminal activity,” Mashego said.

The Tarlton Police also shared some tips that may help keep you safer:

• Report suspicious people or vehicles around your premises or business.
• Clear the areas around the gate and other hiding places.
• Do not leave house keys hidden in your yard instead buy enough keys for everyone at home.
• Always lock the gates and doors at night.
• You should not be visible from the outside when you are asleep in the bedroom.
• If you leave your residence, inform your neighbours about your trip and the time you will be back.
• Ensure that you have a good relationship with your neighbours so that you will be able to help each other.
• Ensure that tools such as axes, spades, picks, etc. are locked when you do not use them.
• Do not close your business very late.
• Do not employ casual workers without any reference.
• Keep copies of all your employees’ identity documents.

The police are appealing to the community members to help with any information that can help to root out these crimes by calling Tarlton Saps on 011 952 0012 or making use of the crime stop number.
