Operation Okae Molao in Kagiso: More than 200 people arrested

It also led to a total of 61 traffic fines to the value of R60 700 being issued.

Police from the different stations in the West Rand District, including Randfontein were at it again when they embarked on yet another Operation Okae Molao and clamped down on lawlessness in the region.

The roadblock and an intensified crime-prevention operation in the neighbouring town of Kagiso on September 29 resulted in the arrests of more than 200 people.

This was also an effort to ensure that the communities feel safe and protected.

Suspects were arrested for the following offences:

Four for murder, two for attempted murder, three for armed robbery, two for common robbery, 30 for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, 11 for common assault, 13 for common assault in terms of the Domestic Violence Act 116 of 1998, five for rape, four for housebreaking and theft, 17 for theft, 14 for malicious damage to property, three for pointing a firearm, one for escaping police custody, one for reckless and/ or negligent driving, one for contempt of court, three for contravening a protection order, one for possession of drugs, one for possession of an unlicensed firearm, one for dealing in drugs and dagga and dealing in liquor without a licence, one for dealing in liquor without a licence and assault on a police officer, eight for dealing in liquor without a licence, one for possession of drugs and possession of dangerous weapon, one for possession of drugs, one for contravening the Pharmacy Act 53 of 1974, 68 undocumented persons, one for contravening the National Gambling Act 7 of 2004, one for illegal mining and two for possession of gold-bearing material.

The operation was in conjunction with other stakeholders such as the Department of Community Safety, Department of Correctional Services, Department of Home Affairs, Mogale City Public Safety, Kagiso ward councillors, Kagiso Community Policing Forum and community patrollers.

West Rand District Police Commissioner Major General Fred Kekana commended the men and women in blue, as well other law enforcement agencies in the region.

I am delighted that members are committed in crime combating operations and tracing of wanted suspects, and the efforts put by other law enforcement agencies in the District.

“Lastly, policing is a concerted effort and information shared with the police by the community, shows the trust the community of Kagiso have and is appreciated”. said Kekana.
