More than 40 arrests during female-led Operation Basadi
Crime-prevention operations led by the Carletonville police female station commander, Brigadier Marinda Theron that were held in Tarlton, Kagiso and Randfontein yielded positive results.
Female officers from the West Rand District Police concluded their Women’s Month on a high note with crime-prevention operations in Tarlton, Kagiso and Randfontein recently.
Sergeant Gloria Maswanganye from the West Rand District Police explained that these operations took place on Wednesday, August 31 from 06:00 and that the police officers were joined by Gauteng Traffic and Mogale City Traffic officers.

Operation Basadi was led by the Carletonville police station female commander, Brigadier Marinda Theron and started in Tarlton with a roadblock. The teams were checking for compliance with the National Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996, searching for stolen vehicles, illegal firearms and suspected stolen property. They also distributed pamphlets with safety tips.
“The team continued with their integrated crime-prevention efforts at Kagiso Mall and Tamboti Mall in Randfontein where they engaged with community members to educate them, and continued distributing safety-tips pamphlets.”

They spoke to the communities about crimes such as domestic violence, all forms of gender-based violence and femicide-related crimes. They also encouraged the community to report these types of crimes to the police and get the necessary assistance.
West Rand police detectives also conducted suspect-tracing during the operation and 42 suspects were arrested.
They were arrested for the following:
• One for murder
• Two for attempted murder
• Three for common robbery
• Twelve for assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm
• Three for common assault
• Two for common assault under domestic violence
• One for housebreaking and theft
• One for possession of drugs
• One for possession of stolen property
• Six for theft
• One for fraud
• Two for malicious damage to property
• One for contempt of court
• Six for reckless and/ or negligent driving
Nineteen traffic fines to the value of R30 800 were also issued and about 930 pamphlets were distributed.
