Runaway suspect gets caught with illegal gun, ammo

A 24-year old man was arrested in West Village for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The Krugersdorp police arrested a 24-year-old man after he tried to flee from them.

Captain Raymond Sebonyane from the Krugersdorp Police Station explained that the man was apprehended at Shaft 9 in West Village on Thursday, August 18 at about 18:30.

He said Constables Thapelo Molepo, Lesego Nkola and Vuledzani Siavhe were busy with patrols in and around Krugersdorp when they noticed a group of men near the shaft.

“The members stopped and got out to investigate.”

When the men saw the members they ran in different directions. The police chased them and apprehended one of them. When they searched him they found one Lorcin 9mm pistol and one magazine as well as one live round of ammunition in his possession.

The pistol serial number was filed off. The suspect was unable to produce any document to possess a firearm or ammunition.”

The man was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He was detained at the police cells and will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court soon.

Brigadier Happy Xaba, station commander of the Krugersdorp police said he was very pleased with the members’ dedication especially because most of the murder cases being reported to them recently involved firearms.
