More than 120 people arrested during Operation Okae Molao in Kagiso

The focus of the recent Okae Molao operation was to search for illicit substances and unlicensed firearms; intercept the transportation of prohibited or stolen property; trace stolen and hijacked motor vehicles; enforce the Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996 through roadblocks; clamp down on illegal mining activities through visibility and crime prevention across the Kagiso policing precinct.

The West Rand Police arrested 128 suspects during another Okae Molao operation in Kagiso.

Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere from the West Rand District Police said the operation was a concerted effort between West Rand District Police and other law enforcement on Thursday, August 11 from 06:00 to 15:00.

Dagga was confiscated.

Mogwere said one of the objectives of the five-phase operation was for detectives and their intelligence counterparts to trace suspects.

Another objective was to search for illicit substances and unlicensed firearms; intercept the transportation of prohibited or stolen property; trace stolen and hijacked motor vehicles; enforce the Road Traffic Act 93 of 1996 through roadblocks; clamp down on illegal mining activities through visibility and crime prevention across the Kagiso policing precinct.”

Police getting ready for the Okae Molao operation.

The suspects were arrested for various crimes which included:
• Two for possession of drugs
• Two for possession of dagga
• Nine for dealing in liquor without a licence
• One for bribery
• Two for common robbery
• Thirty three for assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm
• Four for common assault
• Nine for tampering with essential infrastructure
• Nine for common assault under domestic violence

Alcohol was confiscated.

• Two for housebreaking and theft
• Two for possession of stolen property
• Fourteen for theft
• Nine for malicious damage to property
• Three for contravention of a protection order
• Two for contempt of court
• One for reckless and/ or negligent driving
• Two for possession of suspected drugs (warrant of arrest)
• Twenty two for being undocumented foreign nationals

Police held roadblocks during the operation.

A total of 57 road traffic fines to the value of R50 650 were issued while nine liquor outlets were closed and 954 145 litres of liquor were confiscated. All those arrested will appear in the Kagiso Magistrate’s Court soon.

Mogwere said the Carletonville Police Station commander, Brigadier Merinda Theron thanked all involved on behalf of the West Rand District commissioner, Major General Fred Kekana.
