Film crew attack: prospects of successfully prosecuting 14 of the accused

NPA confirms details of court appearance of seven men after West Village crew attack and rape.

The case against seven men, following the alleged gang rape of eight women recently has been postponed to September 28 for investigations to continue. Seven others will also be charged with the same offences on August 11.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s Phindi Mjonondwane said in a statement that the first group of seven appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrate’s Court on August 10.

They face multiple charges of rape, sexual assault, robbery with aggravating circumstances, and contravention of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002.

These charges stem from the incident on July 28 when eight women allegedly were gang-raped while filming a music video at a mine dump.

The National Prosecuting Authority established prospects of a successful prosecution against 14 of the more than 80 men who appeared in the above-mentioned court last week on charges of contravening the Immigration Act.”
