How to party on New Year’s Eve, safely

Welcome the year 2024 in public with these safety tips …

New Year’s Eve is expected to bring large groups of people to public celebrations and private parties all over town.

Alcohol-related injuries and crime typically spike during this time – that’s why you should be prepared to party responsibly.

Here are a few tips for making sure you, your friends and family have a safe, pleasant New Year’s Eve so that you can welcome 2024 worry-free:

• The buddy system: Stay close to your friends as they will have your back in an unpleasant situation. They can keep you calm and steer you away from aggressive situations.

• Read the situation: When people are in a party mood, things can unfortunately get out of control quickly. If you are in a situation where you feel uncomfortable, not in control or vulnerable, you should get out of it as soon as you can.

• Drink responsibly: Pace yourself between drinks to avoid getting too drunk too fast. Always keep an eye on your drink. Don’t take drinks from strangers and don’t leave your drink unattended.

• Don’t drive under the influence: New Year’s Eve is one of the most common days of the year for drunk-driving accidents. When on the road, drive with extreme caution. It can also be a good idea to have a designated driver. Make sure this person knows his or her role in advance so he/ she doesn’t drink.
