Youth of Krugersdorp join the fight against crime

A new Youth Desk structure has been appointed to assist the Krugersdorp police in their fight against crime and also to uplift the youth in the community.

“Any nation whose youth feels hopeless, rejected and useless, has a bleak future filled with anger, confusion, poverty and a high level of crime.”

These were the words of Captain Raymond Sebonyane, Krugersdorp Police Station spokesperson when the Krugersdorp Youth Desk was launched at the Krugersdorp police detectives office on Wednesday, July 13.

“It is an effort to make the youth a part of the fight against crime,” said Sebonyane.

He added that when looking at the latest crime statistics, especially crimes such as contact crimes, gender-based violence, sexual harassment, substance-abuse and property-related crimes it is apparent that the youth is mostly involved.

Onica Mogomotsi from the Department of Community Safety, detective Lieutenant Colonel Magdeline Maboe, Sebonyane, Social Crime Prevention coordinator Sergeant Patricia Tshifularo, and Sector 2 manager Sergeant Nelson Mashila jointly led the process of electing the Youth Desk station executive structure.

This elected structure will be expected to assist the Krugersdorp police in their fight against crime and come up with a plan of action that will bring hope to the discouraged youth.

These are the members of the new district structure:

• Chairperson: Koketso Gobotha

• Deputy chairperson: Deacon Nortman

• Secretary: Meagan Stander

• Deputy secretary: Janne Madilonga

• PRO: Mathapelo Molotsane

They are joined by Monwabisi Magqwanti, Nonkie Phahlane, Mzwakhe Bolotina, Sbusiso Gasela and Ntebaleng Tsholetsane as additional members.

Sebonyane said the Krugersdorp police station commander, Brigadier Happy Xaba thanked all involved for supporting the establishment of such an important structure.
