Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital wants to empower the youth

The Dr. Yusuf Dadoo Hospital recently hosted a youth seminar and leadership programme as part of National Youth Month.

The Dr Yusuf Dadoo Hospital recently highlighted the youth’s battle against unemployment when they were joined by the National Youth Development Agency for National Youth Month.

Puseletso Mabidikame from the hospital said while braving the cold the hospital hosted the class to create awareness of the impact of youth unemployment. The class was attended by some of the staff who participated in a leadership and internship programme as part of National Youth Month.

Puseletso started the day off by saying, “Today’s war differs from the one of 1976 because challenges differ from one era to the other. Life today is all in your mind, tongue and actions. Positive thinking leads to positive actions that lead to a good attitude, which ultimately attract positive mentors who will lead you to good opportunities.”

As part of the discussions the teams engaged with the class about depression, drug use, teenage pregnancy, gender-based violence, racial discrimination, bullying and youth unemployment.

Jabu Mashiloane who represented the National Youth Development Agency told the class about the various services they offer, which include funding to some small businesses. She encouraged the attendees to submit their proposals – even verbal ones – and suggested they have more sessions and work with the youth of the hospital permanently.

Charles Mabasa, the hospital’s Employee Wellness Coordinator also acted as the head of the department thanked the National Youth Development Agency for partnering with them on the occasion.

At the end of the day the 30 attendees shared their business ideas and promised to be a team that would support each other with their business proposals moving forward.
