Protests on R28 near West Village between Randfontein and Krugersdorp currently calm

Police confirmed that a protest took place in the early hours of Friday, May 13 and again on Saturday afternoon, May 14 on the R28 near West Village between Randfontein and Krugersdorp.

West Rand district police spokesperson, Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere confirmed that at approximately 06:00 on Friday, May 13, community members of an accommodation centre in Kagiso burnt tyres close to the road from Randfontein to Krugersdorp, the action came after an incident of robbery and murder in their area allegedly by foreign nationals.

“Police attended to the scene and the road was cleared, police were monitoring the situation on the R28.”

He added on Saturday afternoon, May 14 at approximately 17:45 a small group of community members burnt tyres again and police immediately dispersed them.

“The road is still cleared and the police are still monitoring, ” confirmed Mogwere.

On Sunday morning Sergeant Mogwere confirmed that the road is open.
