Krugersdorp crime stats: Kidnapping, rape, CIT robbery and theft of motor vehicle/ motorcycle increase, murder decrease

In the aggravating robbery category (as per crime statistics by the police for the third quarter of the 2021/2022 period) Krugersdorp placed second in the top 30 stations ranked in the country with a staggering increase of 200% in CIT robberies.

The police recently revealed the crime statistics for the third quarter of the 2021/2022 period and as always there were the good, the bad and the ugly.

Below are the latest crime statistics for Krugersdorp only.

With as many as 37 crime categories mentioned in a detailed presentation by the police, Krugersdorp featured in the top 30 stations ranked in the country on nine occasions.

Regarding kidnapping Krugersdorp placed 24th in the country with an increase of 142,8%; robbery at non-residential premises (26th despite a decrease of 4,1%); robbery of cash-in-transit (second behind Kempton Park with an increase of 200%); property-related crime (18th with an increase of 20,8%); burglary at non-residential premises (28th with an increase of 90,3%); theft of motor vehicle and motorcycle (fourth behind Brooklyn, Roodepoort and Honeydew with an increase of 60,2%); crime detected as a result of police action (18th); driving under the influence of alcohol (also 18th) and sexual offences detected as a result of police action (19th).

PLEASE NOTE: Information below was made available by the South African Police Service and is for the period October 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021.

The following crimes have shown an increase:

CRIMES AGAINST THE PERSON:

• Sexual offences by 19% (from 21 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 25)
• Attempted murder by 100% (from seven in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 14)
• Robbery with aggravating circumstances by 14,6% (from 89 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 102)

SEXUAL OFFENCES:

• Rape by 46,2% (from 13 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 19)

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY:

• Robbery at residential premises by 4,2% (from 24 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 25)
• Robbery of cash-in-transit by 200% (from one in the same period 2020/ 2021 to three)

• Truck hijacking by 150% (from two in the same period 2020/ 2021 to five)

CONTACT-RELATED CRIMES:

• Arson (from 0 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to one)
• Malicious damage to property by 9% (from 89 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 97)

PROPERTY-RELATED CRIMES:

• Burglary at non-residential premises by 90,3% (from 31 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 59)
• Theft of motor vehicle and motorcycle by 60,2% (from 83 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 133)

OTHER SERIOUS CRIMES:

• All theft not mentioned elsewhere by 10,1% (from 198 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 218)

The following crimes have shown a decrease:

CRIMES AGAINST THE PERSON:

• Murder by 37,5% (from 16 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 10)
• Assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm by 11,3% (from 97 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 86)
• Common assault by 21,2% (from 118 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 93)
• Common robbery by 37,8% (from 37 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 23)

SEXUAL OFFENCES:

• Contact sexual offences by 100% (from two in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 0)

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY:

• Carjacking by 7,1% (from 14 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 13)
• Robbery at non-residential premises by 4,2% (from 24 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 23)

PROPERTY-RELATED CRIMES:

• Burglary at residential premises by 2,9% (from 136 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 132)
• Theft out of or from motor vehicle by 7,8% (from 77 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 71)

OTHER SERIOUS CRIMES:

• Commercial crime by 15,7% (from 115 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 97)
• Shoplifting by 40% (from 40 in the same period 2020/ 2021 to 24)
