Police concerned about domestic violence, go door-to-door in Munsieville

In an effort to educate the community about domestic violence related crimes the Krugersdorp Police and other stakeholders took to the streets.

The Krugersdorp Police and other stakeholders recently went door to door in Munsieville and Krugersdorp West during a gender-based violence (GBV) prevention campaign.

The campaign came as a result of the Krugersdorp Police’s concerns about a rise in domestic violence related crimes which their spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane said are caused by alcohol and drug abuse.

The Social Crime Prevention coordinator and GBV brigades which included Kgalalelo Mokgosi and Kelebogile Letshwara were also involved.

The aim was to make people aware of gender-based violence and to provide them with the contact details of institutions where they can get assistance.”

They visited the Munsieville Care of the Aged, Pango Camp, Mshenguville and Villa Gloria in Krugersdorp West where they encouraged the community to join crime-prevention initiatives and work with the police by reporting crimes on the Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or by sending an SMS to 32211.

Teams distributed pamphlets, with the Krugersdorp Police Station’s contact number, about gender-based and domestic violence, and alcohol and substance abuse.
