Police and West Rand CIT unit arrest five: Firearm, ammo and more recovered

The West Rand District CIT unit and the Kagiso Police arrested five people for being in possession of various suspected stolen and illegal goods, including a firearm.

The Kagiso Police and the West Rand District Cash in Transit (CIT) unit conducted a special operation on Tuesday, August 17. It led them to a Tshepisong residence where a man was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya explained that they followed up on information regarding the suspect who was allegedly in possession of an unlicensed firearm and had been evading arrest for over a week.

“They threw their net at the right time and cornered him,” said Sibiya, adding that the arrest of the first man then led to the arrest of four of his accomplices. The charges against them were being in possession of eight suspected stolen cell phones, a Mecer laptop, crystal meth, a fully loaded 9mm magazine, a firearm, and 17 addition 9mm rounds.

The Kagiso Police station commander, Brigadier Themba Maduna, applauded the members for a sterling job and the extra efforts that led to the arrest of all five suspects.

“Perpetrators of violent crimes, crimes directed at vulnerable groups, and any other crimes must expect war as we will not negotiate crime and no stone will be left unturned. If you do crime, we will breathe down your neck and you must pay the price,” said Maduna.

The five suspects who are between 21 and 34 years old will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court.
