'Gender-based violence is a serious virus that is more vicious than the coronavirus. It affects both men and women' – Police.

Kagiso Police arrested a Tshepisong woman after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend to death.

Captain Solomon Sibiya, Kagiso Police spokesperson explained that the 26-year-old woman was arrested at about 8am on Tuesday, 29 September after police were informed about a murder at about 7am.

Police went to the scene where the woman voluntarily confessed to the murder.

She informed the police that she had a heated argument with the victim, which led to a physical fight,” Sibiya said.

This occurred at about 11pm on Monday, 28 September and during the fight the woman allegedly took a knife and stabbed her live-in boyfriend.

“The deceased sustained a stab wound to the upper body. Police found the blood-stained murder weapon on the floor inside the couple’s shack,” he said.

The woman was arrested and taken to the Kagiso Police Station where she was detained and a case of murder was opened. Brigadier Themba Maduna, Kagiso Police station commander explained that gender-based violence affects both men and women.

Gender-based violence is a serious virus that is more vicious than the coronavirus. It affects both men and women in our society and kills trust, tolerance, respect and hope in a relationship. There is no better way to resolve disputes than open communication,” Maduna advised.

The woman has been charged with murder and will appear in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court soon.
