Earlier this year, residents of Krugersdorp heard the news that a second lane was to be added to the stretch of Robert Broom Drive between the entrance of Sugar Bush Estate and the three-way stop with Lud Hersch Drive opposite Hobby Park.
Construction on the second lane started before the lockdown and the completion date for the project originally was 14 September. With the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown, however, delays have pushed this date on to 30 November.

Democratic Alliance Ward 21 councillor, Lynette du Toit, asked the Mogale City Municipal Manager, Pringle Raedani, to respond to questions about the progress of the road widening.
In his reply, Raedani said the project is at least 45 per cent complete. The site has been established and cleared, 85 per cent of the road bed preparation has been done; however, only 35 per cent of the storm-water infrastructure has been completed.
They are still waiting on a quote for traffic signals and to relocate electrical cables. The process of removing the fibre cables could also take up to six weeks, and the final road signage will be installed at the end of the project.
An amber flickering light has been procured and warning signs have been put up on both sides of the road to warn road users. A variety of static and moving speed humps will also be installed where needed during the construction phases.
