Level 3 permissions and restrictions for cyclists

Cycling South Africa encourages all cyclists to ensure that they are aware of the regulations and abide by them at all times.

With the nationwide institution of Level 3 lockdown from 1 June, Cycling South Africa encourages all cyclists to ensure that they are aware of the regulations and abide by them at all times.

These are the regulations to follow:

• Exercise is now permitted between the hours of 6am and 6pm daily.
• When in a public place, a person must wear a cloth face mask or a homemade item that covers the nose and mouth, or another appropriate item that covers the nose and mouth.
• It is not clear whether the 5km regulation is still in place. Cycling SA will continue to engage with government to seek further clarification.
• Clubs and cycling organisations must be aware that no organised group rides may take place under Level 3. There is no directive from government as to what is considered an ‘organised group’, but Cycling SA urges cyclists to keep numbers to a minimum, or alternately consult with their local police for clarity.
• No group training or events are permitted for professionals, unless the facility or event organiser obtains permission from government or Cycling South Africa. Please refer to the schedule as outlined by the Ministry of Sport, Art and Culture and the obligations, inclusive of all persons involved being part of a 14-day quarantine, special compliance officers being appointed, and Covid-19 safety protocols to be met.
• The use of roads and public MTB trails is permitted for exercise. MTB bike parks, SANPARK trails, track and BMX facilities may open subject to meeting Level 3 regulations as provided by government. The lockdown level for hot spot areas will be reviewed by government every two weeks, and any part of the country could be returned to alert Levels 4 or 5 if the spread of the infection is not contained.

Cycling SA has urged all athletes to work together, be responsible and adhere to the regulations to ensure they are above reproach.
