Police condemn those who looted blown-up cash van’s contents

At about 7am, robbers in three vehicles attacked a G4S cash van

Yesterday (3 June) morning’s cash-in-transit heist on Kagiso Avenue might have been a godsend for pedestrians and motorists who rushed to get their hands on some of the cash that littered the scene after the explosion, but for police, it is a major headache.

“We condemn the act of looting by community members. It is a crime. Anyone found in possession of the stolen cash might also face criminal charges,” according to a statement by National Police spokesperson, Colonel Brenda Muridili.

At about 7am, robbers in three vehicles attacked a G4S cash van. One of the vehicles rammed the van, followed by an explosion that gave the thugs access to the cash.The robbers fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money and a Mercedes-Benz was engulfed in flames.

Suburban Control posted on their Facebook page that suspects were seen in a white BMW 330, a white Audi A4 and a white BMW X5. Anyone with information on these vehicles as well as the incident is encouraged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or send tip-offs on the My SAPS app.
