Police on routine patrols catch man with a bag full of explosives

Krugersdorp detectives caught a man with explosives that could be used in cash-in-transit heists, ATM bombings and illegal mining.

The Krugersdorp Police recently arrested a man who was in possession of explosives.

In a statement sent by the Krugersdorp Police spokesperson, Captain Raymond Sebonyane, he said Krugersdorp Crime Office (Detectives) police members led by Sergeant Bantobetse arrested the 33-year-old man on 21 February.

The detectives caught the man with a bag full of explosives.

The police were conducting crime-prevention operations around Krugersdorp crime hot spots on Friday at about 1pm. On York Street in Luipaardsvlei they spotted a suspicious-looking man carrying a black plastic bag, and approached him.

While searching him they found 15 blasting cartridges, 10 connector capped fuses and 25 metres of detonating cord in his possession. He was arrested and has appeared in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court.

“The acting station commander of the Krugersdorp Police, Colonel Masango is impressed by the swift response of the members,” said the statement.

“Police in Krugersdorp will continue rooting out illegal activities and making sure that those who commit crimes are brought to book,” Masango concluded.

“These kinds of explosives are used mostly in cash-in-transit heists, ATM bombings and illegal mining. We encourage the community to call the police,” said Sebonyane’s statement.
