West Village power shutdown not a concern for Krugersdorp

West Village’s power may be disconnected by Eskom after failure to reach payment. But, this will not have any effect on Mogale City Local Municipality areas

The News was recently made aware that power to the West Village area was set to be shut down on Thursday, 23 January.

For clarification; Westrand Distributors is currently operating the power supply to West Village, and the area does by no means fall under Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM). DA Caucus Leader Jacques Hoon was contacted and he noted that Westrand Power Distributors has no affiliation with Mogale City, and that their debt will not affect MCLM areas such as Krugersdorp and Munsieville.

It was reported by Eskom that Westrand Power Distributors is currently in arrears of R18 786 593,07. A notice was already sent out on 24 December 2019, warning of the shutdown. The notice adds that “Eskom requested representations and/ or submissions to be made by all affected parties on or before 24 January 2020.

We further advised that final representations and/ or submissions were due by no later than close of business on 24 January 2020. A final decision will be made and published on 4 February 2020 after all representations and submissions have been considered,” as noted by Daphne Mokwena, the Senior Manager for Customer Service of Eskom Gauteng.

It continued with; “Eskom has not received any representation, submission, presentation or comments on why it should proceed with the contemplated supply disconnection or not.”

The News will try to get in contact with Westrand Power Distributors during business hours on 24 January to supply an update on this matter.
