Krugersdorp CBD operation leads to two arrested

After conducting an operation in the Krugersdorp CBD recently, the police arrested two men who had firearms of which the serial numbers had been filed off.

The Krugersdorp Police took to the streets on 9 September, conducting a crime prevention operation in the CBD.

The operation started at 8.30am and focused on crimes that affect the Krugersdorp policing precinct. When they finished at 3.45pm, they had arrested two people and collected loads of illegal mining implements.

Two men, aged 32 and 40, were arrested for being in possession of firearms with filed off serial numbers.

They also found two wheelbarrows, six penduka stands with eight pendukas, one gas bottle, three bags with steel balls, one spade and six balaclavas abandoned at an open space near West Village.

According to a statement from the Krugersdorp Police spokesperson, Captain Raymond Sebonyane, the Krugersdorp station commander, Brigadier Mashao, applauded the members for removing these firearms from society.

“The suspects will be charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and are expected to appear before the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon,” said the statement from Sebonyane.
