[FOLLOW UP – WATCH] Lazy solution to dangerous swimming pool in Sunset Drive settlement?

After four children nearly drowned in a swimming pool on the property where the Sunset Drive settlement is located, the municipality made a plan. But it's not a very good one.

On Thursday, 23 January, a child almost drowned in the pool at the Sunset Drive settlement and two days later the municipality came up with a solution. However, it’s not a very good one.

It seems that the municipality arrived at the settlement today, 25 January, with a tractor-loader-backhoe (TLB) and are filling the pool with sand.

This pool was already on the property when the residents were moved there in December. It was left with the water still inside and four children have fallen in and almost drowned in the last two months.

The problem with today’s solution however is that no one has emptied the pool and the sand is just being dumped in, causing the water become even muddier and murkier.

On the video, the TLB can be seen dumping the sand in the swimming pool, while the person taking the video tells them it will not work as they first have to drain the pool.

The pool is filled with murky brown water, debris, and apparently loads of frogs, according to an eyewitness.

There is now an added danger – if a child falls into the mud he or she will struggle even more to get out.

A pond on the property looks like it will also be filled.

Residents have been complaining about the smell and the mosquitoes that this pond has been harbouring.

If everything goes according to plan, the residents should be able to sleep soundly, knowing their children are safer.
