Licensing Department will not accept any cash payments

December's armed robbery caused the Mogale City Licensing Department to rethink how they accept and keep cash on the premises.

The Mogale City Licensing Department said in a recent press release that they will no longer accept cash as payment.

This is in response to the unfortunate event that occurred on 3 December when 15 armed men forced their way into its premises, tied up the security personnel and blew open the safes with explosives.

This robbery, it seems, has left a bad taste in the department’s mouth and they hope to avoid a similar event in the future.

They wish to turn the centre into a “cashless environment,” the press release stated and that it would be communicated to the public when this transition is completed.

“It is for the safety of our residents, people we are serving and our staff that the Municipality has in the interim decided to operate within a cashless environment.

We therefore urge the public to please use alternative methods of payment for effecting their licensing and related transactions,” Mokete Lethetsa, Manager of the Mogale City Licensing Department said.
