‘War’ in West Village – community urged to steer clear

People have been urged to avoid the Makhulugama, West Village area because of unrest.

The community has been warned to avoid the Makhulugama area near West Village in Krugersdorp, especially at night, because of apparent unrest.

According to a reliable source, about 500 zama-zamas (illegal miners) have moved into the area in an attempt to steal mine property.

It is alleged that there have been gun fights every night since Thursday, 27 September and two security guards have been killed and another wounded.

Presumably a private security company has their combat unit of approximately 100 members per shift in place in an attempt to stabilise the situation.

On Monday night, 1 October, a nursing sister was reputedly pulled from her vehicle and security had to intervene and help her.

Sergeant Tshepiso Mahele, spokesperson for the Krugersdorp Police, has confirmed the shooting incidents in the area. According to her, the police and flying squad have been deployed to the area.
