Major drug bust in West Village – estimated value over R700K

A crystalline substance was found inside a brown parcel when police pounced on suspected drug dealers.

Police bust two suspects carrying drugs to the value of about R708 000 in West Village on Monday, 19 February.

Sergeant Thsepiso Mashale, spokesperson for the West Rand Cluster, reports that on Monday, police received information from a reliable source regarding the selling of drugs.

“Information indicated that the suspects were trying to sell a brick of drugs to a dealer,” said Mashale.

“The information was followed up and after confirmation, the assistance of the K9 Unit, the National Intervention Unit and Krugersdorp Detectives was called for. An intelligence-driven operation was launched. After careful observation, the two alleged suspects were seen in the area of West Village.”

Police members accosted the suspects, one of whom dropped a brown parcel. Upon investigation, the parcel was found to contain a crystalline substance. It was indicated that the substance could possibly be drugs. The two suspects, aged 22 and 25, were arrested and detained at Krugersdorp Police Station.

The package of drugs weighed approximately 2,4kg, and had an estimated street value of R708 000. The suspects will appear court soon.

Major General Kekana, the West Rand Cluster commander, applauded all the members involved in the operation and the involvement of the community who entrusted the police with the information that led to the arrests.
