Car catches fire in Cradle of Humankind

The owner of the vehicle believes the fire was caused by a dislodged oil pipe.

A Nissan X-Trail spontaneously burst into flames near the Cradle of Humankind on Saturday, 28 January.

The owner of the vehicle was travelling along the road when he noticed smoke inside his vehicle and decided to stop. The vehicle then burst into flames. The flames caused a large smoke cloud that could be seen from a distance.

Conserv Security Company said on their Facebook page that they were contacted and deployed numerous members to assist on scene.

The West Rand District Municipality Fire Department also sent a fire and rescue vehicle to extinguish the flames.

Krugersdorp emergency services also arrived on scene to help where possible. Once the fire was extinguished completely, the burnt-out vehicle shell was removed from the scene.

Luckily no injuries were reported. The owner of the vehicle believes the fire was caused by a dislodged oil pipe.
