Mogale City speaker resigns

It was announced at 11.40am that the council will start the process of electing a new mayor.

Mogale City Local Municipality called the fourth annual special council meeting today, 7 December in the Krugersdorp Centenary hall to address issues such as the election of the new executive mayor.

The meeting commenced at 10am and will be in session until all matters have been resolved.

In an unexpected turn of events, councillor Patrick Lipudi resigned as the speaker of the council after he accepted his nomination as the ANC candidate for the executive mayor position. The DA candidate is Michael Holenstein.

It was announced at 11.40am that the council will start the process of electing a new mayor. Members of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) are present to ensure the process runs smoothly.

The latest reports from the meeting suggest that the EFF and ANC are at loggerheads about the voting procedure.

It’s believed a swing vote will determine if a DA or ANC candidate will become the next mayor of Mogale City.
