The African National Congress (ANC) announced they doubt the resignation of Executive Mayor of Mogale City Local Municipality, Councillor Lynn Pannall had anything to do with her health issues.
The ANC said her resignation reflected the inability of the DA and EFF to work together. The statement also said that the Mayor could not address the community of Mogale City on the recent water crisis and was unable to present quarterly reports to the council as required by law.
“Since the local government elections in August, governance and service delivery have literally collapsed in the city,” said Refentse Mangope, spokesperson for the ANC West Rand.
“As per our resolutions, the ANC remains committed to exhausting all legal and political avenues to ensure Mogale City is able to provide basic services to communities, despite governance challenges.”
They are now calling upon the council of Mogale City to quickly convene the Council meeting and elect the new Mayor who will immediately lead in stabilising the council.
The municipality will announce processes pertaining to the filling of the vacancy in due course.
