[WATCH] Who you gonna call?

What do you do when you phone that emergency number and no one answers?

When an emergency occurs the first thing we do is grab our cellphones to call for help. Many residents know exactly which numbers to phone and have them stored on their cellphones in case they’re needed.

But what do you do when you phone that emergency number and no one answers? Who do you call then?

Emergencies come in all shapes and forms and people need help, not just medically, but municipally as well.

The Mogale City Local Municipality’s website (www.mogalecity.org.za) lists several emergency numbers, but after the News received numerous calls from residents claiming these numbers are never answered, we decided to test them for ourselves.

The first number you will find on their website is the 107 number. When dialing this number from a landline telephone, it simply does not connect through to any emergency room. What now?

When phoning the municipality’s number (011 951 2000) which is also listed, it is answered after a couple of rings.

When the News asked the operator why the 107 number does not work, a few explanations were given, as can be seen in the video:

But the question remains, what do you do when you desperately need to get hold of someone at Mogale City?

This is not the first time the News has reported on phone numbers not being answered.
