Man homeless after fire raged through flat

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control to prevent it from spreading to other flats.

A man was left without refuge after his flat was burnt to ashes during a ravaging fire on Monday, 17 October.

The flat is situated in the Suiderlig block in Krugersdorp West.

Members of the Sector 5 Community Policing Forum said they evacuated as many surrounding flats as they could, switched off the electricity supply, and contacted the fire department.

At 11.22am Mogale City’s Fire and Rescue Services was notified of the fire. Upon arrival firefighters found a two-bedroom flat on the first floor engulfed in flames.

They quickly brought the fire under control to prevent it from spreading to the other flats. Most of the rooms in the flat had a lot of smoke and fire damage.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but investigations are under way. No injuries have been reported.
