Boy,15, drowns at Krugersdorp resort

A teenager died at a resort in Krugersdorp yesterday.

A 15-year-old boy drowned at a camp resort in Chancliffe yesterday, 29 September.

It is believed that the boy was part of a group of pupils that were on a school trip at the resort.

When Netcare 911 paramedics arrived on the scene, local first aiders and paramedics from Quick Response Service were already on the scene initiating CPR on the boy.

“Our Advanced Life Support paramedics assisted and this went on for more than 45 minutes but sadly there was nothing more paramedics could do for the boy and he was declared dead on the scene by a Netcare 911 paramedic,” Athlenda Mathe, spokesperson for Netcare 911 said.

Another boy who was also in the pool was assessed and paramedics found that he did not require hospitalisation.

“Children should learn how to swim as soon as possible.

“It is equally important for them to be trained in survival skills such as floating and treading water but even then, constant supervision is always necessary to avoid such tragedies,” Athlenda told the News.

Police are still investigating this incident.
