Complainant arrested for false information

Krugersdorp Police send out a strong message to those who open false criminal cases and waste police resources.

A man was arrested by the Krugersdorp Police hours after reporting his own vehicle stolen.

The 30-year-old man opened a theft case in Luipaardsvlei on Sunday, 11 September.

On Monday, 12 September at approximately 1.45pm, the West Rand Flying Squad arrested a foreign national for possession of the stolen vehicle. The 36-year-old man was detained at the Krugersdorp Police cells.

Upon further investigation, the police realised that the owner had given them false information in his statement. He was also arrested later that day on charges of perjury.

It is alleged that the owner voluntarily gave his vehicle to the foreigner as insurance to someone to whom he owes money. He then reported the vehicle stolen.

The owner will appear in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.

“Krugersdorp police need to send a strong message to those who open false criminal cases and waste police resources,” Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale, Krugersdorp police spokesperson said.

“Such action will result in liability and a charge of perjury will be instituted.”
