Possible foul play brings vote counting to a standstill

Alleged negligent officials have brought the vote counting to a stand still.

The voting station in Krugersdorp has put vote counting on hold amid rumours of possible negligence.

Following the reports of dumped and missing ballot boxes, the News has learnt that auditors have been called in to assess and monitor the situation at the IEC offices in Krugersdorp CBD.

As of 1pm, the preliminary results are as follows:

• In the district elections: the ANC leads with 48,20 per cent (56 089 of the votes) and the DA in second with 35,41 per cent (41 200 votes). The EFF is in third with 11,43 per cent (13 296 votes). The Freedom Front Plus takes the fourth position with 2.29 per cent (2 670 votes).

• In the local elections: the ANC leads with 48,51 per cent (56 769 votes) and the DA in second with 35,09 per cent (41 057 votes). The EFF is in third with 11,58 per cent of the votes (13 548 votes) and the FF Plus in fourth with 2.26 per cent (2 644 votes).

Thus far 118 374 votes have been counted while 193 028 people registered to vote in Mogale City.

The completion of the counting in Mogale City is 97,3 per cent complete with voter turn out standing at 61, 37 per cent.
