Election candidates serve homeless at shelter

Uplifting the community is an important aspect of a councillor’s role.

Helping to serve dinner and sharing in some cake and hot chocolate on a cold winter’s night was how Mogale DA ward candidates, Lynette Zwankhuizen, Zillah Wehinger-Maguire and Jade Nelson gave back to the community for Mandela Day.

They were joined by Quintin and Jessica van Kerken from the Anti Drug Alliance SA at the Tower of Life Shelter in Krugersdorp. The Tower offers refuge to many of Krugersdorp’s homeless, for whom having access to a shower, dinner and a safe place to sleep can make all the difference.

Uplifting the community is an important aspect of a DA ward councillor’s role. The candidates agreed that providing assistance to a project like the Tower of Life is a rewarding and humbling experience.

Vouchers can be bought from the Tower of Life at R20 each to sponsor a person for a night, giving them an opportunity to shower, have a warm meal and a safe place to spend the night. Vouchers can be bought directly from the shelter in Rissik Street, Krugersdorp.
