Hopefuls hanging it up

Members of the community are urged to bring their old blankets, clothing and shoes which will be donated to various charities throughout the community.

The Hangers for Hope campaign was an overwhelming success in 2015 and this year, Cradlestone Mall is looking to top it.

The late former president, Nelson Mandela, made this profound statement: “The time has come to accept in our hearts and minds that with freedom comes responsibility”.

In celebration of Mandela Day 2016, Cradlestone installed a 67 metre long clothing rail in their main exhibition court.

Members of the community are urged to bring their old blankets, clothing and shoes which will be donated to various charities throughout the community.

“Our campaign is entitled Hangers for Hope.

“Winter has kicked in with a chilly vengeance – there are young and old people without warm clothes and blankets. Hangers for Hope provides a platform for the public to donate clothes, blankets and shoes,” Cradlestone’s management said in a press statement.

A clothing rail with messages of hope on each hanger is the gift Cradlestone wants to give to the needy by the end of August.

Zandre Heyns was first in line to hang up some clothing.

It’s an opportunity to reach out to those in need and contribute to a better country and a better world.

The campaign will be running until 27 July in the Woolworths court and from 27 July to 26 August in the Mugg and Bean court.

The goods will be then handed over to various charities on 27 August.

David Watts, radio presenter for Mix FM, officially opened the clothes line on 16 July and also spent the morning at the mall, encouraging shoppers to support the worthy cause.
