Toddler dies after hit-and-run

The suspect fled the scene after he spotted the lifeless body of his three-year-old victim under his vehicle.

A toddler died this weekend after being involved in a hit-and-run incident in Muldersdrift.

Paramedics were called to the Spar in Muldersdrift after the driver of a VW Golf allegedly drove into a grandmother, her toddler grandchild and into a stationary bakkie before fleeing the scene on 2 July at about 4.45pm.

It is believed the toddler asked another shopper for some food after which she was handed some fresh vegetables for her grandmother to cook.

The next moment a white Golf with red stripes came speeding around the corner hitting the grandmother and her grandchild as well as the bakkie.

The driver and one occupant of the Golf quickly stopped and got out to help the grandmother when they noticed the body of the toddler under the vehicle.

The driver allegedly pushed the grandmother back onto the ground and the two got into the vehicle and fled the scene.

An urgent be on the lookout (bolo) alert was sent out to numerous emergency groups in search of the two suspects involved in the incident.

After many attempts to save the little girl’s life, she was unfortunately declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

Muldersdrift Police gave chase after the vehicle but the driver managed to escape.
