Man shot and car allegedly stolen

The man sustained two gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital.

A man has been shot and his vehicle allegedly stolen in Potchefstroom Street, Burgershoop, this morning at about 7am.

Sources revealed to the News that the 49-year-old employee of West Rand Pack was shot in his hand and hip.

Police, Community Policing Forum members and paramedics assisted the man on the scene.

Netcare 911 spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe, said paramedics managed to stabilise the wounded man before transporting him to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

The News understands the man was alone and already opening the shop when he was attacked by unknown suspects. Unconfirmed reports say he was shot with a shotgun.

When the News left the scene at 8am this morning, a police officer was seen searching a man a few blocks away. Whether this is related to the shooting incident is still unclear.

The News is awaiting official police comment on the matter.
