Men’s forum relaunched and going strong

The police's West Rand Cluster held their first Men For Change meeting at the Krugersdorp Game Reserve.

The West Rand Police Cluster’s Men For Change forum gathered at the Krugersdorp Game Reserve for their first official meeting on Friday (20 May) as a group that aims to be leaders in the community, over and above already being public servants.

The forum, among others, aims to provide a support structure for men in the SAPS, to help career development and promote gender equality.

The Acting National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khomotso Phahlane, relaunched both the Women’s Network and Men for Change on 10 May.

“Men for Change looked beyond the masculinity of a man. It looked at behavioural change, establishing a culture of open men, ensuring that men found their voices and roles when it came to violence against women and children, necessitating men to start talking openly about their challenges and their roles in society, their shared visions and beliefs,” he said.

During the meeting, police officers, Mogale City and Correctional Services officials gathered under the leading voice of the men’s forum’s secretary, Brother Lucky Matome. The Champion, Brother Mashole Manamela, who is also Randfontein’s station commander, inspired the men to help drive change both through work and in the community they come from.

Not forgetting the “woman behind every successful man,” Manamela thanked the Women’s Network for the equally hard work they do.

After t-shirt designs, future events and men For Change outreaches were discussed, numerous braais were lit for the afternoon.

“We, as men in the community, need to be role models for our children and other men,” he said.

Police stations across the country were instructed to relaunch Men For Change.
